During a meeting of the Old Boy’s committee in Perth on the 25th of February the following business was handled.
Annual Golf Outing.
This event will again take place at O.B. Pat Barron’s challenging Strathmore G.C. on Sunday 5th August. The First Tee is booked for 13.30 hours and the price is £30.50 inclusive of High Tea. Book early by calling Ralph Giulianotti 01738 624674. Last year’s outing was great fun. Fr. Andrew 93 years young and still enjoying the wine of the country gave out the prizes. The Scratch Abbey Quaich was won again by James Stephenson and the O.B. Cup by John Anderson.

Dinner
The Millenium Dinner was a sell out, with special guests Hamish MacDonald and Fr. Francis Davidson who was voted in as our Honorary President at the earlier A.G.M.
The meal was first class, speeches entertaining and a great time was had by all, many having booked into the Hotel for the night. This year’s Dinner will again be held at O.B.Maurice Taylor’s Holiday Inn West Nile St., Glasgow Saturday the 13th. October at 7.45 preceded by the A.G.M. at 7.00pm.The Dinner will cost £27, and there is the usual O. B’s. discount on a room for the night. A deposit of £10 is required. Abbey Boys.
O.B., and now Honorary President Fr.Francis successfully launched Mike Turnbull’s book on our school at our Dinner. It is proving a Best Seller already grossing £5,729 from nostalgic O.B’s. worldwide. Author Mike has been interviewed three times on the radio and the National Press has reviewed the Book. Abbey News.
The Fort has been sold to ex T.V. personality Terry Nutkin who already owns the Lovat Hotel. In an interview for T.V., with Kirsty Wark, he said that he intends to reinstate the buildings, continue to run the Heritage side, and do other developments. Fr.Benedict, who attended the christening of singer Madonna’s child at Dornoch, was quoted in the National Press! The O.B’s.War Memorial has been safely moved into the grounds of The Lodge, which is now the local Catholic Church served by ex Abbey Monk Fr. Paul Bonnici. At present Fathers Francis, Edward, and Bernard are attached to Ampleforth. Fr.Edward is still chaplain to the nuns at Colwich Abbey.Fr. Benedict continues as P.P. at Brora. Fr. Aelred is P.P. at Penrith. Fr. Anthony is at Nazareth House Bonnyrigg. Fr. Abbot Nicholas Holman is at Downside.Fr. Andrew is with the Sisters of the Poor Wellburn Homes Dundee.Fr. Stephen is working in the diocese of Plymouth and Fr.Abbot Mark is in Edinburgh.

DEATHS. Canon John Crowley (Shaun) who died suddenly on the 2nd Feb. He was latterly chaplain to the Benedictine Nuns at Largs. R.I.P.

Nicky Gordon (Anaesthetist), who was awarded a posthumous Honorary Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons Edinburgh. R.I.P.
Father Gregory Brusey latterly of Ampleforth died peacefully in the company of his fellow monks on March 30th 2001. This well loved Monk and Old Boy was a fine cricketer, and according to Monsignor John Barry, ‘the best slip fielder in the school’. However, he was best remembered for his virtuosity on the Abbey Organ bringing pleasure to us all. R.I.P.

2. Minutes 1999 A.G.M. : Jim Dollan, seconded by Maurice Taylor, adopted the Minutes. Matters arising, none.
3. Minutes E. G. M. 7/7/00 : Joe Dunn, seconded by Angus Macdonald, adopted the Minutes.
4. Abbey Boys.
The author, Old Boy Mike Turnbull, was given a vote of thanks for his efforts in producing this splendid book, which Fr. Francis will officially launch at our Dinner tonight.
5. Website (www.corbie.com)
Mike Drummond explained that the Old Boys website had been set up after the school had closed because there was no other base and nowhere else to go. The website was an accessible and relatively cheap way of keeping Old Boys in touch with each other, and of informing them of new developments. Jim Dollan moved that Mike Drummond be congratulated for his excellent work in constructing and maintaining the website. This was seconded by Ralph Giulianotti.
6. Committee Report.
There had been two meetings in Perth since the A.G.M. The business at these meetings concerned, the publishing of “Abbey Boys”, the website, and organising the Golf Outing and Millennium Dinner.
7. Treasurer’s Report.
Prepared by Joe Dunn. The Bank Account balance now stands at £8,426 which includes the sum of £3,424 from advance sales of “Abbey Boys”. The Chairman thanked Joe for all his hard work.
8. Elections.
Jim Dollan moved that the current Officials be re-elected, Angus Macdonald seconded this. Hamish MacDonald moved that Fr. Francis Davidson be appointed Honorary President; this was seconded by Chairman Ralph Giulianotti and accepted by all present.
9. A.O.B.
(a) Jim Dollan suggested an Old Boys weekend to include A.G.M., Golf, Race Meeting and Dinner Dance.
(b) The overtures already made for a loose affiliation with Ampleforth were discussed. Fr. Francis offered to liase, particularly as he had recently been made Dean of Hospitality.
(c) Matt Tyksinski asked about the future of the Abbey War Memorial. Hamish MacDonald suggested in the event of the Abbey being sold, it might be prudent to move it into the Lodge grounds, a suggestion seconded by Fr. Francis.
(d) Mike Drummond moved that a vote of thanks be given to the Lovat Estates Factor, Giles Foster, for his assistance in writing “Abbey Boys”. A new CD of the Abbey organ, choir and a talk by Abbot Oswald Eaves was now available for sale.
10. Date of Next Meeting.
